Because we supply at wholesale prices, buying from us and having a local garage fit the part is often still considerably cheaper than going through a main dealer or exhaust specialist for both supply and fitting together.
One important point for whoever fits the part: do not use exhaust paste on the front of the cat. Exhaust paste goes brittle as it dries and can block or damage the converter, which voids the warranty immediately. New gaskets must be fitted instead.
Not always, and it’s worth understanding this before you order. The catalytic converter is one part of a wider emissions control system. There are several other reasons a petrol car can fail an MOT emissions test, including problems with oxygen sensors, fuel trims, ignition faults, or other engine issues that affect the quality of exhaust gases reaching the cat.
If your C1 has failed on emissions, a diagnostic check to identify the root cause is the right first step. Replacing the cat on a car with an underlying engine fault may not resolve the failure. If the cat is confirmed as the cause, we can get you the right part quickly.
A catalytic converter needs heat to work properly. The exhaust has to reach a certain temperature before the cat can break down harmful gases effectively. On a longer drive that happens quickly and stays that way. On a short trip of a couple of miles, the exhaust may never get hot enough before the engine is switched off.
Many C1s spend most of their time on short trips around town, and that kind of use can wear out a catalytic converter sooner than you’d expect. Starting from cold repeatedly and never getting the exhaust fully up to temperature puts more strain on the cat than a mix of town and longer drives. It’s worth knowing if you’re wondering why your C1 is showing a catalyst problem despite relatively low mileage.
Signs that the cat may be failing include an engine management light with a catalyst fault code, a sulphur or eggy smell from the exhaust, or a noticeable drop in performance. A rattle from underneath the car can point to the internal structure breaking down, though it’s worth getting a diagnostic check done first to confirm the cat is the cause before ordering a replacement.
Every cat we supply carries a minimum 12-month guarantee. If a part proves to be faulty within that period, return it to us for inspection. Once the warranty claim is confirmed, a full refund is issued. Replacement parts must be paid for in full in the meantime. Labour costs are not covered by the guarantee, either by Catman or the manufacturer, so any refitting costs following a fault are at the customer’s expense.
If you need to make a warranty claim following an MOT failure, you’ll need to provide a four-gas report showing the HC, CO, CO2 and O2 readings from the test. Claims without this cannot be considered.
Returns must be requested within 10 days of payment. Parts returned after that point will not be accepted for a refund. The part must be unused, undamaged, and in its original packaging. Parts that have been modified, incorrectly installed, or had exhaust paste applied are not covered by the warranty. If you think a part may be faulty, contact us within 14 days of noticing the problem.
