Cleaning, regeneration and replacing a DPF are different actions. The appropriate next step depends on the vehicle and the diagnosed condition of the system. A universal mileage, reset sequence or driving instruction is not a substitute for its handbook.

Start with the warning and the history

Record the exact message or symbol, when it appeared and any recent repairs or recurring symptoms. Tell the garage about unsuccessful previous attempts to resolve the warning. Do not repeatedly clear fault codes without establishing why they returned.

Ask what has actually been assessed

A proposed cleaning service should explain the assessment and the intended result. Ask whether the filter is considered serviceable, what evidence supports that view and what happens if the proposed treatment does not resolve the fault.

Avoid generic forced-regeneration instructions

Do not copy a forced-regeneration procedure from an unrelated model, scanner or internet article. Use the manufacturer’s instructions and a competent garage’s assessment of the vehicle. This guide does not prescribe temperatures, speeds, timings or workshop procedures.

If a replacement is recommended

Obtain the complete assembly reference and the relevant engine, date and specification details. Ask about any associated fault and the checks the fitter will complete. Find replacement DPF information and send the details to Catman for a parts quote.
